I just happen to love this note from the Acknowledgments section: I’m saying the same thing on every Laini Taylor book review, but it holds: I was sad to discover that at this time, the rest of the larger story isn’t yet written–I would really look forward to silksingr more about the Fairies of Dreamdark.
Taylor’s lyrical prose combined with her brilliant imagination, her ability dreamdrak create unforgettable characters and her strong, solid plotting makes for a whole so magical it actually boggles my mind a little. The point of view in this book actually kind of rests behind four different sets of eyeballs. Evil is dreandark there, and many surprises await the fairy heroes as they try to protect the world’s tapestry from unraveling.
One of the other things I really liked was the slow, understated romance. The point of view in this book actually kind of rests behind four different sets of eyeballs.

And behind dramdark all flies Magpie Windwitch, first champion of the new age of faeries, desperate to rescue Whisper and the Azazel alike before they fall in the clutches of a sinister hidden enemy. That cannot be silkinger end of this series. I decided on five because despite not having resolved the full story arc, Silksinger was fast-paced and action-packed, with well-designed characters in a rich world full of wonderment.
Silksinger is the second book in the Dreamdark series by Laini Taylor and is the sequel to Blackbringer. I’m actually glad I didn’t read this series when it first came out, as much as I would have loved it then – even longer to wait!
So if you’re a Laini Taylor fan and you love epic fantasy, support her Dreamdark books by reading and if you can, reviewing them. And those who’ve fallen in love with the first one will find just as much to enjoy in this next.
I love the collaborations of Taylor with her artist husband because it makes the characters come to life so powerfully in one’s imagination. I discovered the first novel in this series, Faeries of Dreamdark: I surface a few hours later, when I’ve read it to the last page, no pausing.
She can take a story and weave magic into those tired old words like nobody’s business-making scenes dance and jump on the page, making flat characters come alive in such a way that it’s crazy to believe these tiny people couldn’t exist. I plan to hold off on reading Silksinger to her for another year or even two as I think she may find some of the scenes fairly disturbing.

Silksinger (Faeries of Dreamdark, #2) by Laini Taylor
It’s definitely ends on more of a To Be Continued note. Kids in the intended age group of 9 – 12 should be fine with the more mature themes. Silksinger is right now at the top of my list of best books I’ve ever read and, once you read it, I’m sure it will be on yours too. Is Silksinger for teens? Ages 10 and up. I find this combination vaguely disturbing…maybe Dreamdark is a better combination of these two elements?
Withoutabox Submit to Film Festivals. If I picked it up without rereading its predecessor, would I be able to follow the action in Silksinger or would lose me right at the start? This time the main story follows Whisper Silksinger, the last of the Silksinger clan and the guardian of one of the ancient Djinn that the devils are trying so hard to acquire. At the start, Whisper might seem like such a timid person but she has a backbone of steel when it comes to doing her duty as a guardian of Azazel.
I found Blackbringer a little harder to get into that her other eilksinger but ended up enjoying it quite a bit once I got used to the writing and the worldbuilding. But I pulled for her, and I liked Hirik silkinger.
Someone wants to kill the djinns and that’s bad. I liked getting to know more about how Maggie was formed, why she was thought into being and why she can make changes tot he tapestry.
